Tailwheel Training

Fancy a new challenge? Take your first step into aerobatic flying and open up the possibility of flying a whole new range of unique aircraft. Whilst this training is not difficult, tailwheel flying involves a number of different techniques, especially on take-off and landing. What has always seemed very simple in the average training aircraft suddenly becomes a whole art itself.

Pre course requirements:

What does the training involve?

Flying Training

Our tailwheel differences training is conducted to meet the student’s needs and abilities, so the number of hours necessary to meet the standard required can vary between pilots. During the training, you will learn how to handle a tailwheel aircraft on the ground and in the air. Did you know that you have to move the control stick forward on take-off? It seems counterintuitive, right? Our experienced instructors will help you learn how to master take offs and landings and keep the balance ball central during flight. Once you are ready, your instructor will send you on your first tailwheel aircraft solo. There is no formal test or check at the end of the training. You will get an endorsement in your log book to prove you have completed tailwheel training.

Once you’ve caught the tailwheel bug, how about trying some aerobatics? We can also provide the training for your aerobatics rating so you can make the most of flying our American Champion Citabria aircraft.
